Book Spotlight: Saved by the Spell by Casey Keen

Saved by the Spell
Book Two in the Anna Wolfe Series
by Casey Keen

Genre: Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Romance
Number of pages: 176 pages
Cover Artist: Jenna DeVries, Graphic Designer

Book Description:
Two worlds in danger.
A Grand Witch behind bars.
A stunning Werewolf and a devilishly handsome Warlock’s pursuit for her affections.
You think you have it bad? Grand Witch Anna Wolfe awakens to find herself imprisoned by Micah, the Prince of Darkness. Micah’s on a quest for world domination—and it’s not just the Netherworld that’s in danger. The human world is threatened as well. Now, it’s up to Anna to escape from Micah's clutches so she can locate The Scholars and an ancient book before both fall into the wrong hands.
With a fiercely loyal Werewolf and immensely powerful Warlock by her side, what can go wrong?
A lot apparently.
If fighting off the Prince of Darkness wasn’t enough, Anna’s emotions are a whirlwind, as she battles between what fate demands and what she actually wants.

Excerpt:
Heat flows under my skin like lava, boiling in my chest. I shift in the prison chair, hoping to displace my sudden fury. Micah turns back to me, smiling like a child.
“Ah, Valen,” he smiles coyly, “your Achilles heel.”
Hearing Valen’s name passing through his repulsive lips angers me more. “I'm going to kill you,” I promise him.
Micah strides over to me, bending down until he's right next to my ear. “I'm going to find him Anna... then I'm going to torture him over and over again while you watch,” he whispers softly, lightly grazing my earlobe with his lip. “I'm going to kill him right in front of you and once I’m finished with him, I am going to kill all of your family and friends—one by one, until you have no one left but me,” he finishes. “You are mine Anna, and nothing you can do will ever change that.”
My jaw tightens and I grind my teeth in anger. I squirm violently, attempting to spell the bindings off me. Rage takes over, blinding me of all rational thoughts. I need to get out of this chair and save Valen—as well as everyone else. The constraints refuse to budge and my magic is still unresponsive. I calm down unwillingly, deciding to conserve my energy. I glower at Micah as he throws his head back, laughing victoriously.

Desperate to keep her alive, he drags her into his private world of ancient power and bloody altars with devastating consequences.
With their minds and bodies connected, is there room for Sean?

Guest Blog by author Laurie Olerich:
Call the Lightning is the second book in the Primani series. It’s an exciting urban fantasy romance that follows the tribulations and transformation of one young woman and the tight group of elite warriors charged with her journey to immortality. At times dark, at times light, full of twists, and steamy passion, the Primani series provides a new spin on an old concept. There’s a fine line between good and evil and no one is immune to temptation.
CTL is set a year after the end of Primani. Mica and the Primani are propelled from the snowy slopes of Vermont to the creepy underground world of Manhattan, hunting humans, demons, and the undead. The action is fast paced, the dialogue is sharp, and the romance is complex and sensual.
Fun Facts about the Primani World!
1. The word “primani” is Latin for soldiers of the first legion. My Primani are just that: Elite warriors whose mission is to keep the balance of good and evil on earth while they wait for Armageddon. They exist to give humans a fighting chance against demons and their chaos and destruction. They also get tasked to protect certain humans, like Mica, who have a role to play in the future.
2. Primani are immortal. They were once purely human super soldiers in their own time…whether Celts in Ireland or with Genghis Khan in Asia, they were a cut above the rest: lethal, ruthless, and intelligent. Each was handpicked by an archangel to become Primani. Raphael is Sean, Killian, and Declan’s maker.
3. The word “saol” means life. Their saol is their energy core, the source of their powers, the source of their supernatural weapons. Golden, liquid, and transferable, it’s sort of like an internal halo. It’s also useful for, uh, more delicate activities.
4. All Primani have psychic powers. Most had them while they were human though some were granted when they were made. Telepathy, teleporting, telekinesis are just a few. Many have healing abilities, mindreading skills, and premonitions. Killian is unique in this world. He is the last of a powerful line of priests that died out before the Bronze Age. Yes, he’s that old. His extraordinary powers come from his ancestors and he keeps them tightly leashed most of the time. Killian is the only one who can cross over astral planes, control lightning, and communicate with the ancient Gods in his temple.  His story is told in Stone Angels.
5. Primani are bi-, tri-, quad-lingual. After all, they’ve been around a while. They tend to speak English since they’re living in America, but slip into Gaelic, Latin, Greek, and assorted dead languages when they’re frustrated or especially mad. Mica only speaks English--no one thought to add this skill to her list of powers. Maybe some day.

About the Author:

Laurie Olerich is the author of the new Primani series. Part urban fantasy, part romance, part paranormal...Three things she can’t live without! Laurie spent most of her life in the Northeastern United States and in Western Europe. She now lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her son and Dalmatian duo, Domino and Rambo.  Desperate to escape the heat, she lives vicariously through Mica and her Primani by setting their adventures in the mountain coolness of New England and the rainy days of London. Before throwing caution to the wind and diving into a writing career, Laurie dedicated 20 years to her country by serving in the United States Air Force. Much of her time was spent around men with guns and cool toys...this explains her obsession with both.

While they work to find a way to neutralize the goddess, Marley discovers that every time she nullifies someone, she takes on some of the Gage falls for Marley’s sharp wit and intense desire to right wrongs. But once he

discovers she’s turning into her enemy, is it too late to back away?

Our Review:

Marley Canton is a goddess who has lost her power, and in so doing, is very probably the cause of the mortal threat that hangs over the community of goddesses as a whole. Gage Samargo is Numina, so by definition an adversary, if not an out-and-out foe. Regardless of a mutual attraction, they each have more important matters to take care of, until they come to the realization that their goals overlap, and working together will bring the best results.
Natalie Damschroder has done a wonderful job with this companion to Under the Moon and Heavy Metal (books 1-2 in the Goddesses Rising series). It is a bit heavy on logistics, tactical maneuvering and self-analysis, but don’t let that worry you – all of it is delivered with plenty of action, plot twists and suspense. Additionally, the last third of the book was spectacular! Oh yes, and the very yummy relationship that develops between Marley and Gage is icing on the cupcake! Well done.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I was born in the little, but big bustling city of Chicago, Illinois. I still live there today and I’m loving every second of it ... Except for those harsh cold winters. I started writing short horror stories when I was eleven years old. It wasn't until 2004 that I decided to take the plunge into the professional literary world when I wrote Desires Unleashed. I love the supernatural world; I've always found it fascinating, especially vampires and shape-shifters. It was my love of the genre that motivated me to create the story I had always wanted to read. I published it, hoping there were other people out there who would be entertained by that same story. I love to entertain people, to offer them that fantasy world they can escape into filled with wonders and good times. I know I appreciate the escapism I've delved into when reading a good book. Some of the accolades I've won for my writing are: "New Voice of Today" by A Romance Review, "Rising Star" by Love Romance and "Author of the Month" by Warrior of Words. I've been nominated two years in a row in several categories, including "best vampire novel" and "best urban-fantasy" at Love Romance and More. About the Book:

She’s sexy-fierce, resourceful—and will do anything to protect victims as innocent as she once was. But this kick-ass reaper never bargained on meeting her not-quite-human match…or putting their very souls on the line.
A luxury Caribbean cruise is Ruby Dawson’s idea of hell even under the best circumstances. Too many bad memories bubble up—especially of the wrenching injustice that made her a reaper. It doesn’t help that Jack Deverell is making this routine soul-collecting job twice as difficult with his devilish good looks and not-so-innocent questions. The only way Ruby can save him is to challenge the decades-old curse threatening his soul. And as a malevolent unstoppable force turns their immortality into a fatal weakness, Ruby and Jack must risk their fragile humanity to save Fate’s delicate balance and their own unexpected destiny…

About the Author:
Growing up the youngest of three girls, Lori never had control of the remote. (Not that she's bitter about that. Really. Okay, maybe a little, but it's not like she's scarred for life or anything.) That meant a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy. Star Trek, Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits - you name it, she watched it. It fed her imagination, and that came in handy when the hormones kicked in and she needed a creative excuse for being out past curfew.
After completing her first manuscript, she joined the Romance Writers of
America and Central Florida Romance Writers. Now she exercises the analytical half of her brain at her day job, and the creative half writing sensual paranormal romance. Grim reapers are her specialty, but she loves to write about all creatures of the night.

Vengeance consumes him . . .
Tortured by his past, Karson has worked tirelessly to wreak vengeance on the demons who murdered his family. But when Ava inadvertently disrupts his intricate plan for revenge, his focus shifts to an all-consuming need to keep her alive and in his arms.
Love could save their souls . . .
Thrown together by fate, Ava and Karson explore their new feelings and discover hope for the future. But they must battle the demons threatening humanity to find a destiny worthy of their love.

Excerpt:

I’ll grab my first-aid kit,” I said.
Karson looked like he wanted to argue, but I didn’t wait around long enough to see if he would. Instead, I slipped out of the room and walked down the short hallway to the lone bathroom in my apartment before he could open his mouth. I grabbed the kit from under the sink, and then leaned against the counter and took a moment to suck in a few deep breaths. A fiery death. A sexy scary dude with tattoos. A man who melted into nothing. This was so far removed from the almost-ordinary world I’d known the day before.
Karson had a sour expression on his face when I returned.
“Is this Cherry Pepsi?”
“Coke. Don’t insult me. Pepsi is gross.”
“This is gross.”
“Take your shirt off.” My face immediately flushed with heat. Had I ever ordered a man to take his shirt off before? Pretty sure that was a negative. I dropped the first-aid kit and it thudded against the coffee table. I went and grabbed a set of latex gloves from the box I kept under the sink. Last thing I needed was for a vision to hit while I was trying to treat the man’s wounds. I think I’d just give up at that point. Even though the idea of touching him, feeling my skin sliding against his, was definitely appealing.
Karson had pulled off his jacket by the time I emerged from the kitchen, and the sight of him stopped me in my tracks. He’d turned so his back was to me, and I could see exactly why he wore a long jacket in early June. Beneath his jacket, he’d hidden a shoulder holster. Against his hip was a long knife, still sheathed. He wore a black T-shirt, ripped and bloody. Clawed. The rips went from his belt line and halted at his leather gun holster.
He pulled off his knife and gun, then set them on the couch on top of his jacket. The shoulder holster was next. He pulled off his T-shirt, and I gasped.
Tattoos covered his shoulders and upper back. They were like, everywhere. I looked closer. No two symbols appeared to be exactly the same and with their complex arrangement, they were surprisingly beautiful. I’d seen small ones trailing down his arms, but had mistaken them for wanna-be tribal designs. These were different, and I could see now that the ones on his arms were different, too. Symbols rather than pictures, and all etched in black ink.
He peeked at me over his shoulder, eyebrow quirked as if asking me silently if I liked what I saw.
I licked my lips.
“Any day now.”
The low growl in his tone roused me from the half trance that staring at the designs covering his back had put me in. I turned my attention to the scratch marks.
“Scared I have cooties?” he asked after I pulled the gloves on.
The teasing in his tone almost made me drop the peroxide bottle. Who knew the man could tease?
“Scared you have another arsenal hidden in your pants.” Oh, damn. That wasn’t what I meant. “I’m just not big on touching.”
He hesitated, as if processing what I’d said. “I’m tempted to make a joke about you touching the arsenal in my pants, but it seems too easy.”
