Character Interview: Shield by JC Andrijeski

Today we are interviewing Cassandra Jainkul the main character of Shield, Allie's War, Book Two by JC Andrijeski. If you have questions for Cassandra please leave them in the comments as she will be stopping by to answer!
Thank you, Cassandra (and JC Andreijeski) for stopping by!

1.  What is your name? What name do you use?

Cassandra Jainkul. Pretty much everyone calls me Cass, except my mom and some of my aunts, and most of them can’t say Cassandra very well anyway, at least on my dad’s side of the family. When I was a kid, it was usually Cassie, but that changed when I was like twelve.

2.  What do you look like? (Include height, weight, hair, eyes, skin, apparent age, and distinguishing features)

Well, I’m a total mutt. My dad was Thai, but my mom was a mix-mash of Scottish, and she claims Ethiopian, but all of my aunts say that our family has been in America on that side for like three generations at least. She’s kind of little, smaller than me. Not like I’m super tall or anything, I’m like 5’4”, but she’s a total shrimp, only like 5’ tall. I have brown eyes. I’m twenty-nine, like Allie...we were in the same grade in school the whole time we were kids. I have this really ugly scar on my face now, from being kidnapped by Terian with Revik and Jon. Allie would say I’ve still got ‘va-voom’ but it’s pretty hard to tell here, in Seertown, since they hit on everyone here, and I’m new, so fresh meat.

3.  How do you dress most of the time?

Well, waaaay better than Allie, that’s for sure. I used to have to make her go shopping with me, back in San Francisco. I’ve had to get a little more creative up here in Seertown, since we’re in the middle of friggin’ nowhere in the Himalayas. But it’s kind of a tourist town, so I can still get some cool stuff, but yeah, it feels like a long camping trip up here. I’m looking forward to getting back to civilization, even though Revik, Allie’s husband, let me go on a spree with his credit card one day. Man, that guy’s tight, though. Allie wasn’t kidding when she called Revik ‘tighter than a weasel’s a-hole’ when it comes to money. Jeez. That would drive me crazy, personally, but she’s still in that whole honeymoon stage thing, so she just thinks it’s cute. Wow. Yeah, if that’s love, I’ll pass...

 4.  Do you own a car? Describe it.

I had this horrible beater in San Francisco for awhile, a lime green toyota that used to backfire at the funniest times. It was great for just a get around town car...well, until the water-pump died and then the engine blew up because the temperature thingy went into the red. After that, I pretty much took the bus, at least until the whole thing went down with Allie being a seer and me and Jon getting kidnapped by Terian. I was saving up for a new car, though...I was going to get convertible. I know, I know, convertibles are a waste in San Francisco, but heck. You only live once, right?

5.  What hobbies do you have?

Well, I dabble a bit in the art thing, but not like Allie or anything. I used to sing in a rock band, back in my early twenties. It was awesome! We wore these totally crazy outfits, like babydoll dresses with cones on our bras and fake snake tails and wings. We mostly played noise...like totally off-kilter industrial stuff. That was with my boyfriend, Jake. He was the drummer. He was pretty brilliant though...he came up with our name, the Angels of Ra. I have no idea if he even knew who Ra was, but it didn’t really matter. We were pretty much just into the weird make up and painting our sets with creepy black-light landscapes for raves...

6.  Are you dating anyone right now? If so, who?

Well, yeah, I’m dating this seer named Chandre...I call her Chan, so does Allie. Yeah, sometimes I date girls. Chan’s pretty intense. She was, like, persistent, you know? And despite all the crazy stereotypes about seers being into casual sex and nymphos or whatever, she’s, like...possessive. It’s actually kind of too much sometimes, but she’s really cool. She’s like this badass hunter chick, and works as an infiltrator, like Revik, Allie’s husband. She’s really hot, too. Like...all muscle, but really pretty too, you know?

7.  What’s your favorite movie of all time? Book?

Hmmm...movie. I might have to go with Dr. Strangelove. I think me and Allie watched that like three hundred times in high school, that and Young Frankenstein. ‘There wolf...there castle...’ You know, that one. Book? I don’t know. I read a lot of Stephen King.

8.  What is your view of authority, and what event most affected it?

Well, if you knew my parents, you probably wouldn’t have to ask the second half of that. Let’s just say, I don’t like being told what to do. Allie says I’ve got an ‘endless affinity for the hopeless case.’ Ha. Like she’s one to talk! I do tend to root for the underdog, though. I don’t like being told what to do, but I don’t like seeing anyone else getting pushed around, either.

9.  What about you is heroic?

Me? I have no idea. I’m one of those people who doesn’t sit on the sidelines, I guess. I mean, I guess I could have gone back to my life in San Francisco after that whole thing with Terian...unlike Jon, I doubt anyone would have bothered with me, with Allie gone. I could have gone back to my old life, and just let her and Jon come her to India without me, and gotten therapy or whatever else and tried to forget about the seers. But I just couldn’t, you know? I want to make a difference. That’s kind of heroic, isn’t it?

10.       Of what benefit could you be to the current group?

I think Allie needs me. Maybe more than she realizes all the time. She’s too danged serious, for one thing. But she also tends to kind of lose perspective when it comes to Revik. She needs both of us...me and Jon. Jon’s like, the voice of Buddha or whatever. He’s the nice guy. I’m more the bitch, I guess, but I’m also the voice of reality. Allie sometimes just needs to get her head out of the clouds, you know? See things as they are. I think I’m like the splash of water to the face for her sometimes. Not like she’s spacey or whatever, she’s not...but she worries about EVERYTHING, and like, you can’t fix the world single-handed, you know? You can’t fix everything. Sometimes, you just got to have a beer and let it all go for a night. Sometimes, you just have to look at your husband and think, “he’s hot. I’m taking him home right now,” and not get all angsty about stuff from his past or stuff going on in the seer world or whatever else. You know? Sometimes, it’s just not that complicated. And sometimes it is, and you have to make it simple anyway.

Worse, he thinks Allie belongs to him.

About the Allie’s War Series:

An urban fantasy paranormal romance set in a unique, gritty version of Earth, populated by a second race of beings called seers, the Allie’s War series centers on the relationship of a strong female protagonist, Allie Taylor, and her antihero guide, Dehgoies Revik. Falling into the new adult genre of books, the Allie’s War series takes place in a modern version of Earth you’ve never seen, that spans centuries along with the lives of its main characters, the seers, and the wars they fight with themselves and their human allies and enemies, (steamy sex scenes in parts!).
