Thunder by Taryn Kincaid and Giveway

Title: Thunder
Series: Sleepy Hollow #2 | 1Night Stand
Author: Taryn Kincaid
Genre: Paranormal, erotic romance, urban fantasy
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Format: Ebook
Pages: 36

Purchase: Decadent Publishing | Amazon |

 Book Description:
Lonely young witch, Veronica Hardwicke, has struggled to get on with her life after the death of the elderly husband who’d left her a fortune and a sprawling estate in mystical Sleepy Hollow. When frightening things go bump in the night on a stormy Fourth of July, who better to call than the sexy developer and contractor, Sean Jones, who's been renovating her mansion for months?

Sean may grace the tabloid pages with a different supermodel on his arm every night, but it's Veronica who drives him nuts. Ignoring his instinct to stay away, he answers her summons.

Will the thundering passion of their 1Night Stand tear down the barriers between them?

Excerpt:

Veronica paced back and forth in the grand entry foyer of the Belmont mansion, the kitten heels of her Prada mules clacking on the marble floors.

The rest of the place might not be finished, but she’d insisted on having a few rooms completed, so at least she felt like she was living in a home, rather than a massive, never-ending construction project. Well, her contractor had insisted, even though working around the main entrance and central hallway created more work for him and his crew. But she was forced to admit he was right.

Her cell phone chimed on top of the antique credenza shoved flush against one wall. She leaped for it. Probably Geneviève, to regale her with all the fun she was having inParis. Or Sean, to advise her he couldn’t make it after all. She sighed and read the text message on the small screen.

Congratulations, Veronica. 1Night Stand has found your date. Have a good time.

With both anxiety and mounting excitement, she stared at the screen and waited. No other info. Outside in the night, thunder boomed. She jumped then laughed at herself.

Ghosts are one thing, but freaking out at the weather now? Cripes, you really do need this date!

She let her imagination run wild, then texted back for more details:

When? Where? Who?

An insistent pounding at the front door jarred her out of her fantasy. She swung the door open on another explosive crack of thunder.

Sean stood on her doorstep, his soaked T-shirt molding sculpted pecs and abs, his drenched hair flattened over his brow. Rain poured down as he fiddled with his iPhone, a bemused expression on his face. Behind him, jagged arrows of lightning tore the dark sky. He glared at the screen, glanced at her in confusion, then back at the screen.

Veronica’s own phone pinged again. Thunder roared. She read the message in disbelief.

You’re looking at him.

Her favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, reading, writing, chocolate, coffee, nature and hanging out with her kitties.

Our Review of Winter Eve:

We give Winter's Eve four bites!  The author`s use of language is impressive as Lia Davis has a superb amount of talent with her craft.  The setting is well-described and the characters are clearly explained.
Our one critique--The pacing of this short was so fast it was a little hard to get into.  The story was handed out with large amounts of backstory that, at times, could be a little too much.
However, it is our understanding that this is the first book in a series, and as such it does a wonderful job setting up the books to come.  We can't wait to read more from Lia Davis!

A Paranormal Romance Author's Opinion on Macbeth

As Part of the Romance Madness Blog Hop, I wanted to kick it up a notch... And what is more Mad and centered on the Paranormal than Shakespeare's Macbeth?

Hello Hoppers!

(To Visit the Next Hop Loacation please click on button above.)

Paranormal Literature has been alive and well for centuries, take for example, Shakespeare's Macbeth.  In the play, a trio of witches tells Macbeth that he will be king.  In effect, they set off a rollarcoaster of horrific murders and an bloody path to power.
These three witches play an important role in perpetuating the hero in his role of becoming the antagonist.  (What an amazing thought--though I'm afraid romance readers would not enjoy a hero who becomes the villian--or would they?)
A simply question could be asked--Did the witches cause his descent into madness or was their prophecy only a foretelling of things to come into his life?
In my humble opinion, I believe that they perpetuated the effects.  They set his murderous rampage into action.  He tells Lady Macbeth about the prophecy--in effect furthing the ego behind the witches words.  Freud actually likened Macbeth to the three aspects of personality: selfish instincts (his desire to become king), realistic thinking (the belief he must kill to fulfill prophecy), and moralistic conscious (the fact that he knows his actions are deplorable).  Yet, thanks to Lady Macbeth, he is spurned on to take continuing action because people, by nature, are suggestable--and, for him, pressure is coming from every angle--fate, marriage, internal choice and a fear of failure.
"Stars, hide your fires!
Let not light see my black and deep desires."
--Macbeth, Act I, scene IV

As an author of paranormal romance, I am of the school of thought that men are often predictable because of their desire to please, their drive for power, and their susceptability to public opinion. Yet, I like to hold out hope that the characters I write will not be like Macbeth--I write dark fiction, but the shadows I create are often killed by the light.
What do you think? Do you think that the witches have planted the thought and causes action?  Or do you think Macbeth would have acted on his own freewill without the witches prophecy?  Why?

"Out, damn'd spot! out, I say!—One; two: why, then
'tis time to do't.—Hell is murky."
- Macbeth, Act  V, scene I

Happy Endings Giveaway Hop!

by Danica Winters
Whether you find love between the pages of a Vampire novel or with the swipe of a finger in a Mary Jane romance, there is something that unites all lovers of a Great Romance novel--the guarantee of a Happy Ending.
happy endings giveaway hopWithin romance you are made a promise, a promise that you will end the book feeling great, love has conquered evil and that there are great things to come in the character`s futures.  Yet, there are two different types of "Happy Endings" (no snickering from my perverted readers).  There are two main categories, the HEA:  Happily Ever After (hello, The Nymph's Labyrinth) and HFN: Happy for Now (The Vampire's Hope).
I love writing books with both types of endings.  If I let my characters always walk off into the sunset it would not only be boring for readers, but it wouldn't be a challenge for me as an author.  I like to create situations where we aren't always sure that things will be sunny in the end, but we hold out hope for our beloved characters.
There has been a lot of talk about the characters Ellie and Ian from The Vampire's Hope.  (I don't want to give you a spoiler.)  But for those of you who have read the story I promise there is more to come.  Ellie Smith is a hard-headed no bull**** type of woman/Vampire... and I envy her strength.  I, like many of my devoted readers, want to take her place and be able to kick butt when the opportunity presents itself.  And more than anything I hope that she and Ian will get the HEA... Maybe someday?

As A Thank you, we are going to presenting another wonderful Giveaway for the Paranormal Romance Fans for Life!

Guest Post by Joseph Spencer Author of Grim!!

Title: Grim
Series: Sons of Darkness Series, Book 1
Author: Joseph Spencer
Genre: Crime, Dark, Horror, Mystery, Paranormal, Thriller,
Publisher: Damnation Books
Paperback/Ebook
Words: 93,000
Purchase: Damnation Books | Amazon (Kindle) | Amazon (Print) | B&N |

Book Description:
When everything is taken from him, Detective Adam White must choose what's most important. Does he stick to the heroic ideals which made him a famed paragon of justice and take down a murderous madman? Or does he give in to his vigilante impulses, avenge his wife's murder, and become the type of killer he's hunted for so many years?

Excerpt:
Adam heard a few sounds of Velcro peeling from its straps. Suddenly, Black Mask shed the mystery and ambiguity of his head gear. He became another mystery altogether. What happened to this guy? He looked like he’d seen hell, escaped, and doctored his face to give everyone else on Earth a preview.

Black Mask obviously suffered from rosacea because his skin was inflamed, swollen, and the angriest shade of red Adam had ever seen. A jagged circular scar similar to a clock face ran from Black Mask’s forehead down his cheeks to his chin. A vertical scar ran straight down the middle of his forehead and along the bridge of his nose. Two horizontal scars extended from the side of his nose and curved upward toward the temples. Two additional scars extended outward at angles from just under his nose, across his lips and ended on either side of his chin. All of the scars connected to the outer circular one like spokes to resemble a starfish shape. Adam struggled not to have any reaction, but failed to keep the corner of his mouth from inching up into a grimace.

Black Mask smirked and put his right hand up to his face. He pretended to be admiring himself in the mirror. “It’s okay, Detective. Your reaction is fairly common and a lot more subdued than most. Of course, I bet you’ve seen a lot of horrors in your line of work.

“So, you want to know the tale of Heath Grim, do you?”

About the Author:
Joseph Spencer is the author of the Sons of Darkness series launched by his debut novel, Grim, on September 1, 2012. Work on his second book of the series, Wrage, is already underway and is expected to be released some time in 2013.

THE ROAD HERE

The Sons of Darkness is a series of paranormal crime thrillers following investigations into mysterious deaths in the central Illinois city of Prairieville. Home of the notorious serial killer, The Reaper, Prairieville has had a history of violence centered on an ongoing feud between the Marino and Black organized crime families. When bodies start showing up again at the abandoned Marino State Hospital, many fear the Reaper has returned. The people of Prairieville are about to find out their problems stem from a supernatural source which has lurked in secret for decades.

 THE STORYTELLER’S STORY

As a boy, Joseph Spencer immersed himself in the deductive logic of Sherlock Holmes, the heroic crime fighting of Batman and Spider-Man, and a taste for the tragic with dramas from poets like Shakespeare and Homer.

Before Joseph took to spinning his own tales, he pursued a career in print sports journalism, graduating with honors from Clinton (IL) High School in 1996 and summa cum laude from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2000. He covered such events as NASCAR’s Subway 500 race in Martinsville, the NBA Draft Camp in Chicago, the Junior College World Series, and Minor League Baseball’s Midwest League All-Star Game during a ten-year career throughout the Midwest. Now, he works as an emergency telecommunications specialist with an Illinois police department. The combination of years of writing experience with a background working with law enforcement professionals gave rise to his writing aspirations.

Joseph was married Dr. Amy (Waggoner) Spencer, an accomplished veterinary doctor, on March 14, 2012. He received word his debut novel was accepted by his publisher, Damnation Books, the next day. Joseph and Amy look forward to their honeymoon in Paris in September 2012. Murphy, a 15-year-old orange tabby, is perhaps the most vocal member of the family. The Spencer family enjoys reading Charlaine Harris, George R.R. Martin, Mary Janice Davidson, and most paranormal stories. The Spencers also enjoy quoting movie lines from The Princess Bride, Rain Man, Bridesmaids, and Office Space.

Character Interview: If Wishes Were Shadows

Meet the stars of IF WISHES WERE SHADOWS: Adam, Calinda, and George William as interviewed by their creator, A. Sangrey Black!
I'd like to start by thanking the three of you for stopping by this evening to talk about yourselves and your first story in the Shadows series, IF WISHES WERE SHADOWS. I've met all of you before, but many of the readers are probably new to your universe. This is for them.
Adam: Of course. We're honored to be your guests as you are our progenitor.
GW: You've always got to use the biggest possible words, don't you? Show off.
Calinda: *sighs* Thanks for having us, Sangrey. As you can see, the boys are… well, the boys. But we'll try to focus, right guys? For the readers? They do pay the bills, after all.
Adam: There's no need to chastise me, Calinda. It is George William who acts like a five year old who has indulged in too many sweets. This kind of behavior is how he ended up in the position in which you found him the first time you met.
Calinda: *flushes* Uh, yeah. That was a little different. Let's save that for the story, okay? And Will, please? Don't antagonize Adam. We're in public.
GW: All the better. *smirk*
Adam: Insolent brat.
GW: Overblown pratt.
Okay, let's try to focus. I have a few questions I'd like each of you to answer so the readers can get to know you better. I tried to find some that were off the beaten path, so we can learn some things a standard chat might not reveal.
Calinda: Great. That's why we're here. *she flashes the male vampires a pointed look*
Adam: Don't challenge me, Calinda. I expect it from George William, but I don't appreciate this kind of attitude from you.
GW: *snorts*
Adam & Calinda: Shut up, George William.
SO. How about a simple one to start with: your names, and how you like to be addressed.
Adam: My full given name is Adrastus Caesar Adamus Soranus. In the modern era among humans, I identify myself as Adam Straton.
GW: You cut off three pompous names and added an extra one.
Adam: One more snide remark and we're going to have a scene.
GW: Promise? You know how I like it in public.
(Continued...)

Excerpt
His kiss was a shock—gentle, sweet, beguiling rather than forceful. He teased her lips open with his tongue, probing within, making love to her mouth in a way that seemed foreign to the scene they were in. She lost herself and threw her arms around him, grinding her lace-bound breasts against his chest, her aching crotch against his erection. Just a little more…the kisses, his body, if he would just touch her, just show that small

mercy, it would be enough.
He pulled away abruptly, his expression shadowing once more, searing her with the red rage flashing in his eyes. He returned and began the kissing again, but roughly now, biting her lips, around her chin and jaw, tickling the fine hairs behind her ears and down her neck. Calinda was almost hyperventilating, her breath ragged then stopping entirely, her lungs frozen with the foreign sensation. Now and then he nicked little wounds in her flesh with his fangs, just a pinprick of pain, but the sensation of Adrastus licking and sucking away each one drove her ever closer to madness.

“Please, Adam, God, please!” she cried, arching her back toward him, reaching out to clutch at him, fighting to take control.

He stepped out of her reach. “Ah, now, you’ve failed me again, Calinda. I gave no permission to touch me. You must be punished.”

Before she had a chance to wonder what that meant, Adrastus hooked the tips of his fingers in the low neckline of her dress and tore downward with supernatural strength, ripping the thin cotton of the dress and the corset away, leaving her in nothing but the stiff lace of the panties. The chill of the room, her out-of-control arousal, and her lingering fear sent a frisson of goose bumps rioting over her entire body. She whimpered in helplessness and frustration, unable to force herself to stay either silent or still as commanded.

The exquisite punishment was worse than any pain her imagination could have conjured. He kept on nibbling, feasting on her, making tiny cuts over every inch of her body except any place where she so desperately wanted to be touched.

About the Author:

Alexia enjoys the darker side of entertainment, including literature from the classic gothic style to the modern horror novel, erotica and romance that walks in the shadows off the beaten path. She loves horror movies both psychological and gory, and nurses a fascination for and dedication to the rights and practices of alternative lifestyles. What two or more adults do in the privacy of their dungeon is her... rather THEIR business. Vampires are her great fictional (or are they?) love, but all things that hunt the night, human or otherwise, forever capture her imagination and demand that she tell their stories. A denizen of the Adirondack Mountains of New York, there are plenty of legends, ghost stories, and creepy happenings in the deep forests and abandoned caves to keep her writing for the rest of her life.

A. Sangrey Black also writes more mainstream paranormal romance and urban fantasy as H.A. Fowler. She loves to hear from readers of both styles, so feel free to drop her a line or visit her blog or Facebook.
