He is held captive by Domina Valour and tested sorely in this darkly sensual third episode of the Phaeton Black series.

Gaspar Sinclair can't go after Phaeton. His physical body is unraveling before everyone's eyes. America Jones is large with child, but only she has the preternatural ability to locate Phaeton and bring him back. And Doctor Exeter's beautiful charge, Mia, has her claws in him. Quite literally.

To accomplish Phaeton's rescue, the doctor must let loose forces he hasn't the foggiest clue how to control, including his attraction to Mia.

While in the dimension of magnetic opposites, the doctor and Miss Jones attempt to reverse polarity to retrieve Phaeton and stop Gaspar from unraveling. Can America and Phaeton find a way to return together, or will this final test rip them apart forever?

Book Description:

THE YEAR IS 1889 and Queen Victoria, exemplum of decency and sobriety, is in her fifty-second year of reign. Paranormal Investigator, Phaeton Black, on the other hand, couldn’t be less interested in clean-living. He has recently taken up residence in the basement flat of London’s most notorious brothel. A dedicated libertine with an aptitude for absinthe, he wrestles with a variety of demons both real and self-inflicted. Unfairly linked to Scotland Yard’s failure to solve the Whitechapel murders, Phaeton is offered a second chance to redeem himself. A mysterious fiend, or vampire is stalking the Strand. After a glass and a consult with the green fairy, he agrees to take on the case.

On his first surveillance, Phaeton pursues an elusive stranger and encounters several curious, horrifying beings. But the most intriguing creature of all is a Cajun beauty who captures him at knifepoint and threatens to spirit away his heart.

Character Interview: Shield by JC Andrijeski

Today we are interviewing Cassandra Jainkul the main character of Shield, Allie's War, Book Two by JC Andrijeski. If you have questions for Cassandra please leave them in the comments as she will be stopping by to answer!
Thank you, Cassandra (and JC Andreijeski) for stopping by!

1.  What is your name? What name do you use?

Cassandra Jainkul. Pretty much everyone calls me Cass, except my mom and some of my aunts, and most of them can’t say Cassandra very well anyway, at least on my dad’s side of the family. When I was a kid, it was usually Cassie, but that changed when I was like twelve.

2.  What do you look like? (Include height, weight, hair, eyes, skin, apparent age, and distinguishing features)

Well, I’m a total mutt. My dad was Thai, but my mom was a mix-mash of Scottish, and she claims Ethiopian, but all of my aunts say that our family has been in America on that side for like three generations at least. She’s kind of little, smaller than me. Not like I’m super tall or anything, I’m like 5’4”, but she’s a total shrimp, only like 5’ tall. I have brown eyes. I’m twenty-nine, like Allie...we were in the same grade in school the whole time we were kids. I have this really ugly scar on my face now, from being kidnapped by Terian with Revik and Jon. Allie would say I’ve still got ‘va-voom’ but it’s pretty hard to tell here, in Seertown, since they hit on everyone here, and I’m new, so fresh meat.

3.  How do you dress most of the time?

Well, waaaay better than Allie, that’s for sure. I used to have to make her go shopping with me, back in San Francisco. I’ve had to get a little more creative up here in Seertown, since we’re in the middle of friggin’ nowhere in the Himalayas. But it’s kind of a tourist town, so I can still get some cool stuff, but yeah, it feels like a long camping trip up here. I’m looking forward to getting back to civilization, even though Revik, Allie’s husband, let me go on a spree with his credit card one day. Man, that guy’s tight, though. Allie wasn’t kidding when she called Revik ‘tighter than a weasel’s a-hole’ when it comes to money. Jeez. That would drive me crazy, personally, but she’s still in that whole honeymoon stage thing, so she just thinks it’s cute. Wow. Yeah, if that’s love, I’ll pass...

 4.  Do you own a car? Describe it.

I had this horrible beater in San Francisco for awhile, a lime green toyota that used to backfire at the funniest times. It was great for just a get around town car...well, until the water-pump died and then the engine blew up because the temperature thingy went into the red. After that, I pretty much took the bus, at least until the whole thing went down with Allie being a seer and me and Jon getting kidnapped by Terian. I was saving up for a new car, though...I was going to get convertible. I know, I know, convertibles are a waste in San Francisco, but heck. You only live once, right?

5.  What hobbies do you have?

Well, I dabble a bit in the art thing, but not like Allie or anything. I used to sing in a rock band, back in my early twenties. It was awesome! We wore these totally crazy outfits, like babydoll dresses with cones on our bras and fake snake tails and wings. We mostly played noise...like totally off-kilter industrial stuff. That was with my boyfriend, Jake. He was the drummer. He was pretty brilliant though...he came up with our name, the Angels of Ra. I have no idea if he even knew who Ra was, but it didn’t really matter. We were pretty much just into the weird make up and painting our sets with creepy black-light landscapes for raves...

6.  Are you dating anyone right now? If so, who?

Well, yeah, I’m dating this seer named Chandre...I call her Chan, so does Allie. Yeah, sometimes I date girls. Chan’s pretty intense. She was, like, persistent, you know? And despite all the crazy stereotypes about seers being into casual sex and nymphos or whatever, she’s, like...possessive. It’s actually kind of too much sometimes, but she’s really cool. She’s like this badass hunter chick, and works as an infiltrator, like Revik, Allie’s husband. She’s really hot, too. Like...all muscle, but really pretty too, you know?

7.  What’s your favorite movie of all time? Book?

Hmmm...movie. I might have to go with Dr. Strangelove. I think me and Allie watched that like three hundred times in high school, that and Young Frankenstein. ‘There wolf...there castle...’ You know, that one. Book? I don’t know. I read a lot of Stephen King.

8.  What is your view of authority, and what event most affected it?

Well, if you knew my parents, you probably wouldn’t have to ask the second half of that. Let’s just say, I don’t like being told what to do. Allie says I’ve got an ‘endless affinity for the hopeless case.’ Ha. Like she’s one to talk! I do tend to root for the underdog, though. I don’t like being told what to do, but I don’t like seeing anyone else getting pushed around, either.

9.  What about you is heroic?

Me? I have no idea. I’m one of those people who doesn’t sit on the sidelines, I guess. I mean, I guess I could have gone back to my life in San Francisco after that whole thing with Terian...unlike Jon, I doubt anyone would have bothered with me, with Allie gone. I could have gone back to my old life, and just let her and Jon come her to India without me, and gotten therapy or whatever else and tried to forget about the seers. But I just couldn’t, you know? I want to make a difference. That’s kind of heroic, isn’t it?

10.       Of what benefit could you be to the current group?

I think Allie needs me. Maybe more than she realizes all the time. She’s too danged serious, for one thing. But she also tends to kind of lose perspective when it comes to Revik. She needs both of us...me and Jon. Jon’s like, the voice of Buddha or whatever. He’s the nice guy. I’m more the bitch, I guess, but I’m also the voice of reality. Allie sometimes just needs to get her head out of the clouds, you know? See things as they are. I think I’m like the splash of water to the face for her sometimes. Not like she’s spacey or whatever, she’s not...but she worries about EVERYTHING, and like, you can’t fix the world single-handed, you know? You can’t fix everything. Sometimes, you just got to have a beer and let it all go for a night. Sometimes, you just have to look at your husband and think, “he’s hot. I’m taking him home right now,” and not get all angsty about stuff from his past or stuff going on in the seer world or whatever else. You know? Sometimes, it’s just not that complicated. And sometimes it is, and you have to make it simple anyway.

Grappling with her new identity as “Bridge,” a being meant to herald the end for all of humanity, isn’t even Allie’s biggest problem. Worse, he thinks Allie belongs to him.

About the Allie’s War Series:

An urban fantasy paranormal romance set in a unique, gritty version of Earth, populated by a second race of beings called seers, the Allie’s War series centers on the relationship of a strong female protagonist, Allie Taylor, and her antihero guide, Dehgoies Revik. Falling into the new adult genre of books, the Allie’s War series takes place in a modern version of Earth you’ve never seen, that spans centuries along with the lives of its main characters, the seers, and the wars they fight with themselves and their human allies and enemies, (steamy sex scenes in parts!).

MY REVIEW:

I received this book from the author on GoodReads in exchange for a review. Honestly, I had to debate what I was going to choose number-wise. Part of me wanted it to be a 3, but I did really enjoy it, so it hovers between a 3.5-4 for me.
I wasn't quite sure where this book was going when her family died and she became the grim's novice, but it was great. I was actually scared it was going to be sad! Overall, I loved the idea of collecting the souls after people have died and the soul snatchers were interesting.

My complaints: sometimes the book read very quickly and 100% held my attention. Other times, the book seemed like it dragged on forever and was slow in spots. As in- I had to make myself flip the page. When I did get to a spot that picked back up, it seemed like all of the excitement dumped on me all at once. (That's obviously a plus!) This could just be me though. I also found Zig annoying at times even though I mostly enjoyed his character. His use of the word "lovely" over and over and over got old. However, he was a fun character despite this catchphrase of sorts. I also didn't get constantly saying "mobile" instead of cell phone...or just phone in general. I think this may have been a regional/culture thing, so I didn't let it get in the way. I was also frustrated with the amount of questions that were presented, but unanswered. Those answers will come eventually I suppose. Besides, aren't those needed to keep the reader reading?

MAJOR PLUS: I loved the setting!! I hope that it plays a bigger part in the next books (I'm assuming this is a series from the ending) because I'd love to see some real Vienna landmarks and history come into play.
Characters: I love Ana, Ernest, and Zig!! They're great characters with some intense back stories. Very good character development between those three!
Again, this was a really interesting idea and the things that bothered me were minor and probably wouldn't even be noticed by most people. I can't say that I would read this one again, but I am certainly looking forward to book 2 so I can know what happens next!
I do recommend it as it is only .99 on Kindle. Go check it out!

Vampire Elite by Irina Argo

Vampire Elite
Prophecy
Irina Argo

Genre: paranormal

Release Date: 6/7/13

Book Description:

How can you make a choice between saving your people and destroying the one you love?

A millennia-long war between two immortal races is about to come to an end. Long ago, the Vampire Elite began capturing members of another race of immortal beings, the Amiti, forcing them to become their blood suppliers—bloodstock—and locking them in underground cells, where they are treated like livestock. Now, the few remaining free Amiti are making a final attempt to strike back. The Queen of the Amiti has been proclaimed a traitor and executed. Her death makes possible the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna, who becomes the last hope of her dying race.

Arianna totally embraces her mission and is ready to fight for her people to the last drop of her blood but encounters an unexpected challenge—the vampire King Tor. The Amiti Queen and the King of the vampires are drawn into a trap of love where each has to make the ultimate choice: to kill their loved one or risk the extermination of their people.

Vampire Elite is an epic story of a bitter conflict between two peoples, and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers.

Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, packed with action and intrigue, Vampire Elite will pull you into the entrancing world of immortals and open new portals into their hidden universe.

The first two books “Vampire Elite: Prophecy” and “Keepers of the Key” will be released as a bundle in June .

The story is too dynamic to end at the conclusion of Book 1.

At the same time it is too long for one book (600+ pages).

Reader reviews on Vampire Elite:

You’ve managed to restore my hope in the future of vampire books ...

... a fascinating read and definitely a book for anyone who loves fantasy, romance and of course vampires.

… a spellbinding novel of action, suspense, romance, and conscience ...  character development is superb ... the type of book that will make you read all day until you get to the end! It is deliciously addictive!

Excerpt 1 (Simone at the Hunter’s auction)
As the auctioneer spoke, two Sekhmi in eveningwear—a male carrying an elegant dagger and a female a silver tray covered with glass vials—approached the Amiti girl.
“She’s barely eighteen, ladies and gentlemen. That’s a good three years younger than the youngest bloodstock you’ll usually come across. Look at her; she’s stunning, simply stunning, and as you can see, we’ve kept her well conditioned, in excellent health.”
The auctioneer paused as the male Hunter grasped the Amiti’s hand and held it above the tray. The girl showed no resistance, her only display of anxiety the butterfly fluttering of her thick eyelashes. He raised his other hand, and the dagger flashed in the light as with a swift motion he slit the Amiti’s palm. The dark, intoxicating scent of fresh blood filled the room as it poured into the vials.
Simone’s gums began to itch and burn, and she covered her mouth with her hand so no one would see her fangs punching down. It was considered terribly rude to expose one’s fangs in public, even among other vampires. But she needn’t have worried; everyone’s attention was riveted to the stage and the blood flowing from the girl’s wound. The room vibrated with bloodlust and sexual arousal.
The female Sekhmi approached Simone’s table, offering the Royal Pride the first of the blood samples. Knowing that all eyes were on her, Simone forced herself not to hesitate and took a small sip—and was immediately flooded with euphoria.
"For this magnificent specimen, we open the bidding at ten million U.S. dollars,” announced the auctioneer.

Feline Shifters

Lia Davis has kindly agreed to be on our blog once again with her wonderful paranormal romance Ashwood Falls Series. Please help us to welcome her!
by Lia Davis, author of A Mating Dance, Ashwood Falls Series
Feline Shifters. You know you want one of your own.

Just imagine it, a hard, lean, muscled, possessive, yet patient leopard shifter stretched out on your bed…

Hell, he could be jaguar, mountain lion, or tiger. Oh! How about one of each?

So what’s the appeal besides the sexy body? It is true that all shifters have great bods, the power and genetics that make them shifters keep them at their peck. I think the appeal is the beast within and the fact that I love cats. I’m not sure why I’m partial to cats. I love dogs, but I’m a cat person at heart. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t kick a wolf shifter out of bed. *wink* But cats have a certain something about them. A graceful, almost laziness to them that calls out to me and invites me in to want to pet the lazy, yet dangerous feline. You never know what they are thinking or what they will do next.

They move different from wolves and have more patients when it comes to stalking their prey, whether that prey be their unknowing mate or their enemy.

Tell me what you like about the big cat shifters. Or are you a wolf girl, or guy? Have you meet my cats and wolves from Ashwood? Who’s your favorite so far?
A Mating Dance, Ashwood Falls #2
By Lia Davis
Tagline:  She’d fought fate against one, but she’s no match for two.
Blurb:
Senior enforcer, Cameron Nickels has found her perfect mate. Blaine Andrews, leopard Pack Marshal, is strong, dominate, loyal, and passionate. He knows all her strengths and weaknesses—not to mention her pleasure points. Cam’s known Blaine most her life, but she’s always felt like something was missing and her jaguar refuses to fully accept him. Yet, she can’t walk away from him. When architect and sexy mountain lion shifter, Graham Griffin, comes to town to design the new den nursery and school, Cameron finds herself in a mating dance that throws her and her jaguar into flight mode while Blaine must decide if he cannot only share his mate, but welcome another.

After his lover walked out on him a year ago, Graham has no intentions of entering another relationship any time soon. But he realizes that the fates have other plans for him when he meets Blaine and Cameron. When his ex-lover’s children are chased into Ashwood territory by a group of rogues, he discovers the male he shared a life with had died freeing the kids from the Onyx Pack. Graham must work side-by-side with the two enforcers to uncover lies from the past while his heart opens to his true mates.

Warning: Contains one-hot headed leopard, a man who thought he’d lost it all, and a woman who is about to rub up against both in the best possible ways.

Other Ashwood Falls books:

Excerpt:
Cameron sat at Dani and Nevan’s dining table with Max balanced on one knee as she helped him cut his waffle, dip it into the syrup, and bring it to his mouth. When he dropped the fork and stuck his hand in the syrup, she squeaked and grabbed his wrist. Graham came over with a wet cloth to clean him up. Max grunted his frustration then gripped Cam’s hair with his sticky fingers, tangling his fingers around the strands. “Oh, Max.” Cameron stood, only to come nose-to nose with Graham.

Her skin heated and her heart skipped a few beats. His blue eyes darkened slightly, then a flash of bright blue told her that his puma wasn’t far from the surface.

Graham gripped Max’s hand and tried to unwrap her hair from his sticky fingers. Cameron laughed, trying to ignore the heat blooming between them. “You’re making it worse.”

Graham drew his brows together, making him even more handsome. She let her gaze travel over the masculine lines of his face. His skin was tanned, as though he worked long hours in the sun. He had high cheekbones and an average size nose that was just right for him. When her gaze fell on his lips, she wondered what they would feel like against hers. His lips were slightly full, the bottom one begging for her to bite it. When his blue gaze met hers, a wash of desire rushed through her, heating her skin even more.

Good Lord, what the hell was wrong with her? She had a mate, or could have one if she’d get past her commitment issues. She damn sure didn’t need another.

The front door opened, drawing her attention to Blaine as he walked in and shut the door behind him. Cameron immediately met his glare with one of her own.

Damn possessive male.

She stepped away from Graham and went to the kitchen sink to wet her hair and untangle Max’s hands. A moment later Blaine was at her side, he pressed a kiss to her cheek and then took Max from her. Her heart lurched as the little guy started crying and kicking his feet.

Graham appeared and took the wailing child from Blaine, and Cameron swore she heard a growl come from one of them.

Drying the ends of her hair with a kitchen towel, Cam stepped between them, giving Blaine a narrow-eyed glare. “Are you done?”

His leopard flashed in his eyes, and he leaned in to growl, “Not with you.”
